Liberation: What It Really Means to Stop Being Run By Your Patterns

From Your Mushy CEO

My idea of liberation.

Liberation is what happens when the trigger fires and you do not follow it.

When the old pattern rises up and you can see it clearly enough to choose something different.

That is it. That is the whole thing.

And it is one of the most profound shifts a human being can experience.

Because most of us are not walking around free.

We are walking around managed.

Doing our best to stay ahead of the thing that keeps showing up. The reaction we cannot explain. The loop we cannot seem to break no matter how much we understand it.

Liberation is not the absence of the pattern.

It is the moment you realize you no longer have to follow it.

WHAT WE ARE FREEING FROM

Before we can talk about liberation, we have to be honest about what we are actually liberating from.

Because it is not our circumstances. It is not other people. It is not the hard things that keep happening.

It is the patterns running inside us that we did not consciously choose.

For some of us it is pride. For others it is anger. Hatred. Control. Judgment. Fear. Negative speech. Commitment issues. Jealousy. Lust. Addiction. Approval seeking. Laziness. Guilt. Shame.

The list is long. It is personal. And most of us have more than one.

Sit with that for a moment.

You already know which one is yours.

MINE HAS BEEN CONTROL

When the unknown shows up, my body reads it as chaos. And when it feels like chaos, I grip.

I will control this situation. I will make it turn out the way I want.

But life is always changing. Change equals the unknown. The unknown equals chaos. Chaos equals control.

And I lived in that loop. Over and over and over again.

And the painful thing about control is that it never delivers what you are actually looking for.

It does not create safety. It does not create peace. It creates tension, resistance and intrusive thoughts.

WHERE THESE PATTERNS ACTUALLY COME FROM

Here is what I want you to understand about the pattern that is running you.

It is not a flaw. It is not weakness. It is not evidence that something is wrong with you.

It is a part of you that learned to protect you.

At some point earlier in your life, something happened. And a part of you decided it needed to step in. It created a strategy to keep you safe. To prevent the pain from happening again. To make sure things turned out okay.

For me, I most likely had experiences early on where it felt like if I did not control everything, everything would fall apart. So that part of me learned to grip. Hard. And it kept showing up because it was doing its job.

That part of you is not the enemy.

It is loyal. It has been working overtime for years. It just does not know the danger has passed.

And until we can show it something different, it will keep doing what it learned to do.

THE REFRAME THAT CHANGED EVERYTHING

Chaos is just the unknown.

The unknown is not dangerous.

It is simply unfamiliar.

If the unknown is genuinely open rather than threatening, then there is nothing I need to brace for in advance.

What if not knowing is the greatest experience that can exist, because it is the space where something beyond your wildest dreams can actually reach you.

A miracle cannot be controlled. It comes from beyond what I know.

When I could hold that perspective, even for a moment, the grip softened on its own.

I did not force it.

I just became willing to see it differently.

And that willingness changed everything.

HOW THESE FORMULAS SUPPORTED ME

This is where I want to talk about the role Golden Rule’s formulas have played in my own path to liberation.

Not as a shortcut. Not as something that does the work for you. But as a genuine support in the process of becoming more free.

Two things specifically.

The first is awareness.

These formulas have a way of bringing patterns into the light. The loops that run quietly in the background. The reactions that fire so fast you never had a chance to choose differently. Suddenly you can see them. You can watch them rise. You can feel the pull without being dragged by it.

And awareness is where everything begins.

You cannot step out of a loop you cannot see.

The second is perspective.

One of the most profound things these formulas support is the ability to hold more than one view at once. To see something you have only ever seen one way from many different angles at the same time.

When you could only see change as threat, you stayed in the grip.

But when you can also see change as possibility, as invitation, as the space where something extraordinary is trying to arrive, the old pattern loses its hold.

You do not have to force the new belief.

You just have to become willing to see differently.

And these formulas create the conditions where that willingness becomes available.

THE PRACTICE: HOW TO ACTUALLY INTEGRATE THIS

Awareness is the beginning. Perspective is the opening. But integration is where the real change lives.

Here is what this looks like in practice.

When you set your intention and sit in contemplation, something will rise. It might be the pattern itself. It might be the feeling underneath it. It might be a memory or a tension in your body or a thought that keeps circling back.

When it shows up, do not fight it.

Pause. Breathe. Release the tension in your body. Let your nervous system know it is safe.

And then place your hands over your heart.

Speak to that part of yourself. The one that has been working so hard to protect you.

Say it out loud if you can.

I love you. I see you. I know you are trying to protect me. Thank you.

And then make your choice.

Now I am choosing trust. Now I am choosing love. Now I am allowing myself to be seen. Now I am stepping into the unknown.

Whatever is true for you in that moment. Whatever is the opposite of the loop you have been living in.

This is not a performance. This is not positive thinking layered over pain. This is a real conversation with a real part of yourself that has been waiting to be seen and released.

When we acknowledge the protector, when we thank it and then consciously choose something different, we begin to teach the nervous system a new way.

Not overnight. Not all at once. But steadily, one moment of choosing at a time.

SETTING YOUR INTENTION

Before you work with these formulas, take time to set an intention.

If you want awareness, set awareness. If you want new perspective, set that. If you want to feel more joy, love, compassion, set that as the direction.

And then be open to what comes.

Because what may come up first is every reason why you do not feel those things yet. Every belief that is in the way. Every old story still asking for your attention.

That is not a problem. That is the work. That is awareness.

Take time to sit in contemplation. Even a few minutes. No phone. No distraction. Let your brain move through something without being pulled away from it.

If it is constantly interrupted it cannot do the work it is trying to do for you.

One of my favorite products to sit in contemplation with is Golden Teacher or any of the Zen family. They have supported me in slowing down enough to hear what is actually running inside me. To see it clearly. To meet it with compassion instead of more control.

FROM AWARENESS TO LIBERATION

The trigger fires. You notice. You pause. You breathe. You place your hands over your heart. You thank the part of you that has been trying so hard. And you choose something different.

That pause is everything.

That is where the loop breaks.

That is where liberation lives.

Not in the absence of the pattern.

But in the moment you realize you are no longer its prisoner.

You are the one doing the choosing now.

And that changes everything.
