From Your Mushy CEO

I don’t know who needs to hear this today, but it keeps showing up in my world lately—so maybe it’s you.
There’s this wave of people being placed in my path who are not living the life they’re feeling called to live.
They’re stuck.
Unhappy in their jobs.
Craving more freedom.
Some of them know what the next thing is… and some have no idea.
But they feel it. That pull. That whisper. That ache.
And yet—day after day, year after year—they stay right where they are.
There’s one person who comes to mind. He’s family, and I only see him a few times a year at things like birthdays and holidays. But every time I do, it’s the same story.
He tells me how he wants to leave his job. How he’s dreaming of going out on his own.
And I always ask:
“Are you still at the same job?”
And every time:
“Yeah… still there. Just trying to figure it all out.”
For years, it’s been the same script.
Same words.
Same story.
Like Groundhog Day.
But the last time we talked, I didn’t let it slide.
He started listing all the reasons why he couldn’t make the leap—and I looked at him and said:
“Those are all just excuses.”
And his eyes welled up with tears.
Not because I was harsh—but because the truth has a way of cracking something open.
I told him:
“I know it’s not easy. I know it’s scary. But your heart keeps telling you what it wants. Over and over.
And your brain? Your brain keeps getting in the way.
It’s just trying to protect you, based on past experiences or imagined futures.
But none of that is true.
None of that is real in this moment.
What is real—is that desire.
And it’s not going anywhere.”
Then he told me:
“Well, I’m just tired. I work all week and I don’t have the energy to work on my own thing over the weekend.”
And I said, “Then you have to jump ship. Because right now? You’re still sitting in the boat of Plan B.
And as long as you’ve got that boat to rescue you, Plan A is never going to happen.”
You’ve got to burn the boat.
Because when there’s no backup plan—when it’s just you and the open water—
You swim like hell.
You figure it out.
You make it happen.
And I see this in so many people.
They want to make it to the top of the mountain—whatever that dream, goal, or next chapter looks like.
But they become paralyzed looking at everything it’s going to take to get there.
The time. The energy. The unknowns.
They’re staring at the top of the 14er instead of just… taking the next step.
Yes, it’s good to look ahead. To map the terrain.
But then you have to look away from the summit and bring your focus back to the step in front of you.
One foot.
Then the next.
And before you know it, you’re halfway up the mountain.
That’s what this medicine has helped me with—over and over again.
It’s helped me see differently.
It’s helped me separate the voice of fear from the voice of truth.
It’s helped me recognize when it’s my protective child speaking—the one who’s just trying to keep me safe based on old wounds.
And it’s helped me let my adult self step in and say, “We’re safe now. We’re ready. Let’s go.”
And I’m a believer in God.
I trust that if a desire has been planted in your heart, then you have been equipped with everything you need to bring it to life.
Even if you can’t see the whole picture yet.
Even if you don’t know how.
Even if the leap feels like a freefall.
That’s what it is—a trust fall.
And this medicine- this most expansive medicine around?
It quiets the noise in your mind so you can actually hear the voice of your heart.
Scientifically, it works by calming the amygdala—the part of the brain responsible for fear—and slowing the Default Mode Network, which is where all those looping, racing thoughts tend to live.
That’s why it helps people move.
Move through fear.
Move toward truth.
Move into the unknown—with a little more peace.
So, if this is resonating…
If you keep talking about “one day”
If the same story keeps coming out of your mouth at every family gathering
If your soul keeps whispering “more” but your mind keeps saying “not yet”—
Maybe this is your moment.

Burn the boat.
You’re more ready than you think.
